Work/Life Balance for Our Staff
hc solicitors employ just under 100 staff ranging from clerical and secretarial staff, support staff, to solicitors and legal executives to Directors. hc takes its responsibilities as an employer seriously and aims to help its staff achieve a healthy lifestyle and a suitable balance between work and the rest of life.
Flexible Working
hc has negotiated individual working arrangements with many staff and partners – there are people who work limited numbers of days, less hours per day, start late or start early etc. We have always done our best to accommodate staff when a different working arrangement better suits their other responsibilities.
Health
We have supported many staff sporting activities including the annual Race for Life, a sailing trophy and a basketball team. We have recently been able to offer staff Tai Chi taster sessions at lunchtimes.
hc provides a free @ctive card for all of its staff which allows discounted entry to Peterborough City Council’s sporting facilities and offers discounts at other local businesses.
Social Club
hc provides the funds for a staff social club to organise events for staff. On previous occasions, staff have gone bowling, greyhound racing, held a family fete, had casino nights, and gone on a trip to Alton Towers.
Community Involvement
hc supports its staff in being involved in local community and charity activities – allowing time to attend meetings and matching some staff charitable fundraising.
Free Bar Fridays
hc provides a free bar several times a year on a Friday for staff to socialise and unwind for the weekend.
Apprenticeships
hc work with Peterborough Regional College to provide apprenticeships for students on their Business and Administration courses. Time off to attend college is currently given to 8 members of staff.
Work Experience
We take university and sixth form students on work experience placements, offering them an opportunity to supplement their learning with practical experience of legal work. We are one of only a few local firms to assist students with their development in that way.
DAS
An agreement with DAS employment service provides a free counselling line for all staff.
