Andy Cave, in his second term as President of PADLS, hosts Annual Dinner

Thank you to everyone who attended PADLS’ 85th Annual Dinner on Friday 13 March at the Marriott, Peterborough.

Despite it being Friday 13th, the Dinner was a huge success; with 132 confirmed guests making it one of the Society’s biggest events for years and spookily resulting in 13 tables. It was fantastic to see such a mixture of local firms; we had tables comprising of guests from ANB Law, Belinda Smith & Co, Buckles Solicitors LLP, Greenwoods Solicitors LLP, Hegarty LLP, Hunt & Coombs, Metcalfe Copeman & Pettefar, Regency Chambers, Roythornes LLP, Serjeant & Son, Taylor Rose Law and Waller Needham & Green. We would specifically like to thank our Distinguished Guests for attending the evening: such guests included a number of District and Honour Judges, the Mayor of Peterborough, Stewart Jackson MP, John Bridge OBE and a few Presidents from neighbouring law societies.

The evening began with a short drinks reception. We were then seated in the Sir Henry Royce Suite and welcomed by Andrew Cave (Hunt and Coombs Solicitors and PADLS’ President) followed by a ‘Red Nose Day’ special version of Heads and Tails. Guests also enjoyed a delightful three course meal as well as cheese and biscuits. We then heard from Stuart Orme of Peterborough Museum who spoke to us about the history of Peterborough.

Two awards were then presented by Belinda Smith (Belinda Smith & Co) who kindly took her time, along with Nick Plumb (Sloan Plumb Wood) and John Chrisp (Serjeant & Son) to judge the nominations for Trainee of the Year and Young Lawyer of the Year. Congratulations to Hannah Nicholls of Hegarty LLP for winning Trainee Solicitor of the Year and to Stephanie Bridgman of Greenwoods Solicitors LLP on being highly commended. Further congratulations to Kirstie Sowter also of Greenwoods Solicitors LLP on winning Young Lawyer of the Year and to Sally Cox of Hunt and Coombs on being highly commended. Thank you to MBL (Seminars) Limited and Regency Chambers for sponsoring these 2 awards respectively.

Congratulations to Marcus Stevens of LawStaff on winning our main raffle prize: a track day in a Maserati, kindly donated by Maserati who were one of our sponsors of the evening. Just before welcoming The Airwaves to perform, Andrew Cave congratulated Jonathan Williams (Roythornes LLP) on his 60th birthday. Many then stayed to enjoy dancing to The Airwaves.

Thank you again to our sponsors: A & M Bacon, LawStaff, Maserati, MBL (Seminars) Limited, the Peterborough Chartered Insurance Institute, Regency Chambers and THB Group and to everyone who attended the evening and for their contributions during the raffle and Heads and Tails game: the Society truly values your support.

Thank you again & best wishes

Kirstie & Stephanie
