HC expand and develop their Crime and Defence department

City law firm, hc solicitors have made 3 new appointments to their Crime and Defence practice in the last 12 months and added a number of key accreditations to their crime portfolio. Angela Holland, an experienced criminal solicitor and Elizabeth Webb, a former barrister who has recently cross-qualified as a solicitor both joined the firm in 2007. The team has also benefited from the recruitment of a new Paralegal, Amanda Jackson.

Both Elizabeth and Angela have now been admitted as Duty Solicitors, bringing the number of Duty Solicitors in the department to 5 and enhancing their ability to offer 24-hour police station representation. The Crime and Defence department offers a number of valuable services to local businesses including Fraud and Corporate Manslaughter defence, defence for businesses facing prosecution and defence for key personnel charged with motoring offences. The firm also carry out prosecutions on behalf of statutory agencies.

Angela joined the firm from a Huntingdon-based firm where she trained, qualified and ultimately became a partner in 2005. Angela undertakes all aspects of Criminal Law and has experience in both defence and prosecution work (having prosecuted for Government agencies such as the DSS & CSA). Her valuable skills in this area add to the team’s strengths in both prosecuting and defending businesses who find themselves facing criminal charges.

Elizabeth is a trained barrister who worked as a legal adviser for Her Majesty’s Court Services until joining hc this year. During her professional career, Elizabeth has gained extensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of criminal law and procedure, dealing also with many civil applications such as Closure orders.

Angela and Elizabeth join the existing team of Simon Milburn, Andrew Cave, and John Henson who together offer over 60 years of experience in the Criminal Courts. Andrew also holds the Higher Rights of Audience, allowing him to provide representation in the higher courts.

While other city law firms are scaling down or dropping their Crime practice, hc solicitors are continuing to grow this vital area of their legal services, offering a full range of criminal and business defence, prosecution and advice.
