…down Peterborough Cathedral for the P900 appeal
On Saturday 9th July six of our bravest staff members took on the challenge of a lifetime – abseiling 150ft down Peterborough Cathedral’s Great North West Tower. This fantastic event was all in aid of the P900 Campaign which marks the 900th Anniversary of Peterborough Cathedral in 2018.
The daredevil team comprised Gemma Winterton, Anna Whiston, Emily Lowndes, Alice Wilding, Kashif Khan and Davide Corbino. There was also a contingent of colleagues, family and friends all there on the day to support the team in their challenge.
Despite having to battle on with the abseil in the pouring rain, the abseiling team thoroughly enjoyed the event and managed to take in some spectacular views whilst standing up on the edge. Members of the team commented “it was a wonderful experience, the views were lovely… it was a great achievement.” Emily Lowndes particularly enjoyed the thrill-seeking element of the abseil and remarked upon landing “I felt like 007!” The adrenaline-fueled experience is sure to be one the team will never forget.
The run up to the abseil saw plenty of fundraising activities taking place here at Hunt & Coombs Solicitors. We had the opening of the exclusive pop-up restaurant, Café Coombs, which served staff a delicious buffet lunch in exchange for a sponsorship donation. There was also a curry night and a Hunt & Coombs Bake Off for staff to look forward to. One of the best supported fundraising events was the Silent Auction which saw staff bidding for a range of fantastic lots – the top lot being a full weekend use of Henry Anstey’s fabulous beach hut at Old Hunstanton. Other events included an ongoing tuck shop as well as a BBQ fun day at Ferry Meadows.
The total sponsorship fundraised was £1,593.07 – a fantastic achievement by all involved, and a big thank you to everyone who donated money and participated in the fundraising events.
It’s safe to say the abseil has certainly sparked interest in the office, having inspired more staff to try out this type of event. A staff trip to the local climbing wall may just be on the cards!
