We are delighted to announce that our leading mental health law specialists have recently been awarded the esteemed Category 1 Peer Review rating of excellence in mental health law.
The Legal Aid Agency, which funds many mental health cases, uses peer review to assess the quality of legal advice given to clients. The system is structured so that a sample of files are reviewed by an independent peer reviewer – a lawyer experienced in the relevant area of law.
The reviewers obtain a number of files and mark them in a range from ‘failure in performance’ to ‘excellence’. The sample of files is then given an overall rating based on: communication with client, advice given, and work done. This rigorous assessment was introduced to improve the legal assessment of files and advice given.
Andrew Cave (Head of Crime and Mental Health) said “this is a truly outstanding recognition of the work and commitment we give to clients who find themselves detained in hospitals. I am proud of the effort that the team have put in and this rating reflects their commitment to their clients.”
Hunt & Coombs Solicitors have been representing people detained in hospitals throughout the UK for 20 years and are considered to be the leading specialists in Cambridgeshire and the surrounding area in advising and representing people in all aspects of mental health law.
We strive to be the best in our fields of expertise and we are delighted that this has been independently recognised in mental health law. Despite the impact of the pandemic we remain committed to being there for those who need our expert advice and assistance.
