Background

Corporate Social Responsibility

Jack Hunt founded the firm in 1934 to provide court representation free at a time when there was no legal aid for those that needed it most. Since then, the firm has maintained a strong sense of social responsibility and we continue to represent the whole community.

Following in the tradition of our founder, Hunt & Coombs believe in ethical trading and business practice, and attempt to fulfil a responsible position in the following areas:

Charities of the year

The staff at Hunt & Coombs are asked to vote for their choice of two charities that they wish to support throughout the year – a local charity and a national charity with a local presence. This year, the staff chose to support two charities doing amazing things for their local communities – the Young People’s Counselling Service (YPCS) and the Trussell Trust supporting local food banks.

Young People’s Counselling Service (YPCS)

YPCS is a charity providing a free and confidential service that can be accessed by anyone aged between 11 and 18 years old in emotional difficulty. Common problems encountered include family and relationship difficulties, issues regarding loneliness and anxiety, problems associated with low self-esteem and bullying, self-harm, abuse, addiction, distress through bereavement or loss, depression and difficulty with decision making. The charity relies on donations to keep services running and have still been able to support hundreds of young people in need. 3 in 4 children with a diagnosable mental health condition do not get access to the support that they need. Just 0.7% of the NHS budget is spent on children’s mental health and only 16% of this is spent on early intervention.

The Trussell Trust

The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of food banks providing emergency food and support to people locked in poverty. The trust also campaigns for change to end the need for food banks in the UK. Their vision is that no one in the UK should need a food bank’s help because everyone has enough money coming in to cover the essentials. Financial and food donations, corporate partnerships, fundraising challenges, and volunteering opportunities are just some of the ways to help the trust. They are a national charity but have a local presence in all our locations: Peterborough, Huntingdon (Godmanchester), Oundle (Stamford & Oundle), St Neots and Cambridge (Cambridge City).
