70th Anniversary

What will happen after I am discharged from hospital?

Under Section 117 of the Mental Health Act the authorities have a duty to make arrangements for your continuing support and care in the community. This applies to those who have been detained under Section 3, Section 37, Section 47 and Section 48 of the Act.

While the Act makes this duty to arrange aftercare services, there is no obligation for you to accept the services that are on offer or make use of them. For example, the aftercare arrangements might include a visit from a Community Psychiatric Nurse – but you would not have to let them into your home.
