At this year’s Peterborough Telegraph Business Awards
Hunt & Coombs Solicitors were delighted to attend the prestigious Peterborough Telegraph Business Awards 2017 and win the Environmental Achievement category on Friday 17 November.
This was the culmination of many years commitment to environmental issues by the Partners and staff at Hunt & Coombs Solicitors. We recognise that all businesses impact on the environment in a variety of different ways and for over ten years we have focused on continuously improving the firm’s environmental performance in relation to its services and operations.
We were the first law firm to be awarded the Investors in Environment Green Award, which we still hold, having completed a successful audit against the IIE Green Standard in October. In December 2014 we were very proud to be awarded the Great Green Star Award at the IIE Awards and to get it again in February 2016 and February 2017. We owe much of our success to the support and infectious enthusiasm of Peterborough Environment City Trust, since 2011.
Through daily monitoring, we have made huge savings on our usage of gas, electricity and water as well as reducing our waste to landfill and increasing our recycling significantly. We have sustained a continuous improvement against our baseline meter readings for gas electricity and water over the past 7 years.
We recently completed our Zero Waste Week Challenge in the Peterborough office and are very pleased with the results, which are better than ever. 98.95% of our waste was recycled; just 1.05% was sent to landfill and on one of the 5 days we achieved our goal of zero waste to landfill!
Hunt & Coombs has always had a strong philosophy of supporting, and serving the local community. Corporate Social Responsibility is very much at the heart of what we do. We still undertake legal aid work and we have strong links with local schools, churches and charities.
We have approximately 100 people working at Hunt & Coombs and all are involved, making significant savings and a real contribution to the environment effort in the local area. We hope our efforts and those of other local IIE businesses will continue to inspire others to get involved and support and assist Peterborough in its bid to become the Environment Capital.
