National Minimum Wages and Statutory Pay
National Minimum Wage Rates
National Minimum Wage rates increased on 6 April 2018, along with compensation limits in the Employment Tribunal.
The current national minimum wage hourly rates are:
- Apprentice - £3.70
- Aged 16 to 17 - £4.20
- Aged 18 to 20 - £5.90
- Aged 21 to 24 - £7.38
- National living wage for 25 plus - £7.83
The statutory cap on one weeks' pay for redundancy calculations has increased to £508.00.
Employment Tribunal Awards
The maximum awards in the Employment Tribunal are:
- Basic award/ Redundancy Pay - £15,240.00
- Compensatory award - £83,682.00
- Guarantee Pay - £140.00 (5 days in any period of 3 months at £28 per day)
Statutory Sick Pay (SSP)
SSP is now £92.05 per week, it is paid by your employers and is for up to 28 days.
Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP)
SMP is calculated at 90% of your wages (before tax) for the first 6 weeks and has now increased to £145.18 per week or 90% (whichever is lower) of your weekly earnings for the next 33 weeks.
