Background

Roger Gurney joined Hunt & Coombs as a Partner in 2025.

Roger has a vast experience in all aspects of family law, but primarily focuses on financial remedy cases in divorce. He always has a solution based approach and is keen to help clients achieve a cost effective and fair outcome to their difficulties. He also acts in wealth protection cases and prepares Cohabitation Agreements and Pre and Post Marital Agreements. He is a trained Collaborative Family Lawyer and has acted in a number of Collaborative Law cases over the last few years.

Roger has always been a Resolution member and specialises in an ethical non-adversarial approach to relationship breakdown and is committed to a client-focused conciliatory and constructive approach, using his skills as a trained Collaborative Family Lawyer in his everyday practice.

Roger is able to offer a range of dispute resolution options to best meet clients’ needs and most of his financial remedy cases settle without court involvement but in cases where court action is required, he is a determined litigator.

Roger is known for his sensitivity and for making difficult situations bearable.  He is also known for his calm, supportive and caring approach in all cases and for being patient, diligent and fair.

In the 2026 Legal 500 Guide, Roger is named as a Leading Partner in the Family sector.

Roger referred me to an excellent barrister who thanks to Roger’s attention to detail was extremely well-prepared resulting in the outcome I had hoped for.
