Green accreditation eleven years in a row

We are delighted that we have passed our Investors in the Environment (IIE) audit carried out in January and been awarded the ‘Green’ level award for the eleventh year in a row.

When PECT first launched the Investors in the Environment (IIE) standard in 2010, we signed up straight away. As a business we wanted to minimise our impact on the environment and improve efficiency and this provided the opportunity to focus on environmental issues, engage staff and actively promote the issues in the business community. We were awarded our first ‘Green’ accreditation in 2012 and are extremely proud to have kept it ever since.

The IIE accreditation audit

The accreditation is awarded to organisations working towards high level targets following an official auditing process scrutinising documented performance. We were assessed against five key areas of their environmental management system and are pleased to have achieved the top level accreditation with a score of 75%!

As with all audits, there were suggested areas for improvement for next year. One such area would be on environmental training for staff: raising awareness levels in order to help staff to be empowered to make suggestions on how their role can further aid sustainability within the organisation.

Key highlights

We were praised for developing our energy usage policy which focuses on employee responsibilities fostering ownership and engagement with our goals as well as having a good understanding of performance and future target setting, with good knowledge of what will aid target achievement and what barriers may be faced.

Sustainable

Senior Partner Paddy Appleton commented “We are very proud of our achievement. Being sustainable is immensely important and is one of the firm’s core values – ‘We manage our business efficiently to promote growth and provide a sound foundation for legal services. We support the local community and charities, and reduce our impact on the environment.’

What’s next?

Carbon still exists and there is still a climate emergency but what more can we do as a business to reduce environmental damage? We will continue to strive to minimise our impact and think creatively and actively about what actions we can take and we’ll look at incorporating the areas for improvement suggested by the auditors.

Well done to all the staff at Hunt & Coombs who support the journey of improving sustainability.
