Background

Andy Cave is a Partner at Hunt & Coombs and is an experienced high level advocate who specialises in complex crime, high value fraud and mental health.

After attending the Jack Hunt School (Jack Hunt, the founder of Hunt & Coombs), Andy then went on to gain his LLB in Nottingham. He completed his legal practice course at the College of Law, De Montfort University and was admitted to the roll of solicitors in 2002.

Andy has carried out business defence and prosecution work for a wide range of companies and organisations as well as representing individuals in a wide variety of criminal and mental health matters.

Andy holds Higher Rights of Audience in both Criminal and Civil Courts and is an accredited member of the Law Society’s Mental Health scheme.

Notably, Andy helped the first premises in Peterborough to be allowed to serve / consume alcohol outdoors within the City Centre and offers advice to clients on licensing applications. Andy deals with between 5 to 10 licensing issues per year.

In the 2026 Legal 500 guide, Andy is recognised in the Legal 500’s ‘Hall of Fame’.

Interests

In his spare time Andy plays hockey and has been a member of Peterborough City Hockey Club for 35 years. Andy also enjoys playing golf, often representing Hunt & Coombs in corporate golf days.

Advising and representing your company in the event that it is charged or prosecuted in connection with an offence. Andy has extensive experience of working in the Crown and Magistrates’ courts and recently gained the Higher Rights of Audience which allows him to represent clients in the Crown Court.
